Safeguarding Training

EMBA has a team of safeguarding trainers across the Association who have been trained by the BUGB National Safeguarding Team, to be able to deliver the BUGB Excellence in Safeguarding Training at Level 2 and 3.

EMBA safeguarding training programme

Given the current Government guidance, all EMBA safeguarding trainings for the remainder of 2020 have been suspended.  

As soon as we have further information on when we can reschedule 'in-person' training events we will communicate this to our churches.

Who should attend training?

ALL who work with children, young people and adults at risk in our Baptist churches should complete Level 2 training.

Leaders/Trustees and Designated Person for Safeguarding (DPS)

ALL Leaders/ Trustees and the Designated Person for Safeguarding (DPS) of an EMBA church should complete Level 2 AND 3 training.

Renewal of training

Safeguarding training needs to be renewed every four years.

Employment safeguarding training

Irrespective of any safeguarding training you may have received through your employment, the advice would still be to attend the BUGB Excellence in Safeguarding level 2 and 3 training (as appropriate) every four years.  

There will inevitably be some crossover of information between employment and church safeguarding training.  However, the BUGB Excellence in Safeguarding level 2 and 3 training is specific to safeguarding in a Baptist church context and so will cover topics not mentioned in the training that employers provide.

Would your church like to host a safeguarding training?

If your church:

  • has a car park/can arrange parking in close proximity

  • can accommodate up to 40 people in a café-style layout

  • can provide AV/PA support on the day
